What Does Microneedling Do?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses tiny, sterile needles to create the body’s natural wound healing process in the skin. This stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to improve the skin’s overall appearance and texture.
Microneedling can help to:
- Improve skin texture and tone
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Minimise acne scars and other mild scarring
- Reduce the appearance of enlarged pores
- Improve the appearance of stretch marks
- Brighten dull or uneven skin
- Enhance skin firmness and elasticity
The treatment can be performed on the face, neck and other areas of the body where skin rejuvenation is desired.
How Long do the Results Last?
For the best outcome, a course of 3–6 treatments, spaced around 4–6 weeks apart, is often recommended. Results can last several months, particularly when combined with a good skincare routine and regular maintenance treatments every 6–12 months, depending on your skin concerns.
Who Cannot Have Microneedling Treatments?
Microneedling may not be suitable if you:
- Are pregnant (depending on the products used during treatment).
- Have an active skin infection, cold sore, or inflammation in the treatment area.
- Have severe acne or open wounds in the area being treated.
- Have certain skin conditions, such as active eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area.
- Have a history of poor wound healing or keloid scarring.
- Are taking certain medications, such as isotretinoin (or have taken it within the last 6–12 months, depending on clinical advice).
- Are currently unwell with a significant illness or infection.
- Are under 18 years of age.
A full consultation and skin assessment will be carried out before treatment to ensure microneedling is safe and appropriate for you.
